Digg!

Ok, that is funny I have to admit but that cracked me up today.

My question: why do women stay when they are publicly humiliated by their less than human politically involved husbands?

Most recently the Harvard grad wife of Client 9, you know... the one from NY. Even the prostitute was worried after reminding the pimp/madame that there would be pain involved. Than there is the spouse of Louisiana Sen. David Vitter after his name was found on a madam's list last year. Oh and the wife of Idaho Sen. Larry Craig who was arrested for disorderly conduct for allegedly trying to pick up an undercover police officer in an airport bathroom last year. One more... the wife of New Jersey Gov. James McGreevey who stood by when he announced he had a gay lover who also was a state employee.

Oh yeah! I almost forgot, Hillary!!! So why do these women....

stay?

I have been reading all these blogs and posts about how these women claim to have committed themselves to these men, in good times and bad. And how they are taking one for the team. But the minute that man violates the basic agreement to be faithful, all bets should be off. I find this old "stand by your man" trend an embarrassing representation for women and frankly old fashioned and stupid. NIce word. Stupid! I guess at Harvard, they do not unstupidify people.
Yuck.

Before He Cheats
written by Val, March 14, 2008
I couldn't disagree with "Silda" more. When I married my husband, I heard him promise to be faithful to me. If he breaks his promise, all bets are off. You won't hear Stand By Your Man around my house. I 'll be the one humming Before He Cheats.

Seriously, though. It is insulting for me as a woman to see another woman stand meekly by their slimy husbands as they recount for all the world how they cheated. Tell me that the poor woman is not standing there thinking that somehow she was at fault? I would have given any amount of money to have seen Silda turn to her 'husband' at the end of his speech and say, "Oh by the way, honey, so that our daughters can raise their heads high, I'll be divorcing you."

Women everywhere would be cheering. I sure would be.

I completely agree with Lulu-as women and as mothers we are role models to our children and our community. "Standing by your man" in such a publicly humiliating situation is not the kind of role model I would want to be for my children.
I think we should embrace more women in this society who did not settle and have the courage to leave their man in a difficult situation.

Foolishly Loyal
I totally disagree with you. I think that what you are saying applies under normal circumstances, like not getting along or going through a rough time, even when your normal husband makes an abnormal decision and has an affair, But the game changes when your husband gets caught ordering a prostitute when his claim to fame is earned by fighting these people. When he is a public icon. When he is a public figure who stands his ground as Mr. Clean, Mr. Virtue. What this says to me is he a hypocrite and he is an embarrassment to himself, his family and all the people who believed him and voted for him.It is not a simple mingle with office secretary or a friend. He ordered a prostitute, many times, and warned that there would be pain. What is wrong with that? I can never look at that man in the face again.

Clinton was a little different. He was messing around with a young woman, not a man in the bathroom. How can you stand by a man who is paying a woman for sex when all his life fighting against these people. He is a liar. How do you explain to your kids he is a pervert and a hypocrite. I guess I would have no problem if the guys has always been a player and not judgmental against his alike.

Long live loyal women
written by Silda, March 12, 2008
I am a big fan of Clinton for standing by her husband when he was caught cheating on her. I am now a big fan of Silda. When I married my husband, I made a promise to stand by him in good and bad times. These ladies stood their ground and did not run away at the first sight of trouble. Good for them.
