I can tell it is November because the dryer has Halloween candy wrappers popping out of it like confetti, announcing to me the beginning of the most wonderful time of the year. The stores, of course have been telling me this since before Halloween with ads and promises like, “the best price of the season”.
For many of us, this season can loom like a dark storm over our heads. Growing darker and more ominous as we approach that fated day. It twirls and lifts us like Dorothy to an alternate Universe where there are magical, beautiful landscapes that are more in color than ever before. Watching my children’s eyes light up at the sights and feelings of it all is beautiful. Navigating through this alternate Universe can lead to stress while avoiding the scary pitfalls, and the flying Monkeys.
Dorothy made it through by grabbing those she loved and skipping down the yellow brick road with a hopeful and determined look on her face.
Organizing in any area of your life requires thinking about your priorities. Grab your families and prioritize what is truly important. What makes your Holiday feel like home? Is it baking? Crafting? Watching favorite movies? Gifts? The extended family gathered? For me, it happens to be a tree with 80% of the ornaments at the bottom of it.
There is no magic here; no great and powerful Oz behind the curtain to truly help us relieve the holiday pressure, but just like Dorothy, you must believe that you always had the brains, the heart, and the courage to make the holiday season one to remember. When you feel that stress, take a deep breath, close your eyes and try clicking your heels three times. You may just end up home. |
