The Modern Book Club

The Modern Book Club is yet another way in which our Modern readers can connect but his time with books.

Moderator:
Jessamyn Ayers is a writer living in Loudoun County with her husband and two children. Prior to the birth of her children, she was a high school English teacher in Fairfax County. She has degrees from James Madison University and George Washington University. The perfect day for her includes some combination of reading, writing, running and baseball.

Please join us as we are pleased to invite you along on a journey through books. Meet our Modern Book Club Moderator:

Hello and welcome! My name is Jessamyn Ayers and I am a dedicated reader. It is a genetic predisposition. I read with more regularity than I exercise or, frankly, even shower. I think books align us with a reassuring rhythm of being; it is like riding on the back of a horse in full stride. The connection readers make to what is on the page translates off the page, too. Quick friendships form among people who enjoy the same book or the same author. This is why, with its focus on forging connections among its members, Modern Mom started this book club.

The club operates in a traditional way—members read the selected book each month then meet to discuss it (we are hoping to find a local spot for our discussions)—with some nontraditional qualities as well. If you have a question about the monthly selection, you can post it here on the blog. Maybe you want to know where to find a copy of the book or who the narrator is or if everyone else is slogging through the first few pages, too. Maybe you would like to know what parenting book has worked well for others in the forum or what children’s titles are good for a certain age group. Books cross so many planes of our lives; why wouldn’t this forum do the same thing?
