Handpicked must-haves by our team of fashion experts straight from your community, direct to you. Warning: the following contains exceptionally fabulous fashion temptations… proceed with cautionWinter 2007 Must Haves. From Bus Stop to Show Stop… Modern Mom showcases the best of Loudon County couture to reveal the glamour goddess in you throughout the holiday season.

Look #1- Hostess Chic- “Oh… this old thing?” Invest in timeless classics that won’t make you cringe when looking at photos 10 years from now. Garments are less structured this season- enjoy the comfort and ease. Fabric should not hug the body, but be sure there is not an excess of fabric. Feel too bulky? Add a wide belt to cinch the garment. Accessories are key, have fun with prints (but not too much fun), and stick to white wine so your new classics make it past their debut night.

Black Bead Bracelet- Banana Republic $22 each

Faux Onyx Drop Earring- Banana Republic $38

Silk Black and White Floral Dress- Banana Republic $128

Bejeweled black clutch- Marc Jacobs $218

Black Opaque Tights- Vera Wang at Kohl’s $12

Suede Black Bootie with Ankle Bow- Apt. 9 at Kohl’s $60

Fitted Black Belt- Suzi Roher at Sisters $208

Look #2- Effortless Chic- Want to look polished and put together and look like you put zero effort or forethought into your outfit? Read on… The foundation of this look: a perfectly fitted denim silhouette. Once you have it- the sky is the limit. To keep things daytime-appropriate, stick with a pair of flats and experiment with different textures.

Camel Buckle Flats- Banana Republic $108

Chunky Gold Chain Link Bracelet- Banana Republic $48

Navy Buckle Print Cardigan- L.A.M.B. at Nordstroms $235

Rouched Leather Belt- Nordstroms $48

White Polo shirt- Lacoste at Nordstrom's $78

Gold Drop Earring- W/A Studio at Nordstrom’s $33

Dark Red Neck Scarf- Burberry at Nordstrom’s $200

Ankle Length Jean- Immortality Denim at Sisters Boutique Carlyle Clutch- L.A.M.B. at Nordstrom’s $425

Look #3- Ladylike Chic- whoever declared that femininity is “so in this season” is correct. In my opinion, it always is! Layer simplistic fabrics with luxurious ones, use a lace underpinning instead of wearing a necklace. These pieces have specific feminine structure, precisely designed to contour the body. Bring out the pearls! Cream Handbag- Banana Republic $198

Houndstooth Print Jacket- Beth Bowley at Sisters  Boutique $374

Tall Suede Boot- Banana Republic $198

Ivory Wool Jumper- Banana Republic $118

Sheer Ivory Blouse- Alice Temperly at Target $35

Pearl/Silver Earring- Sisters Boutique $108

Nothing to Wear AND a Full Closet?
written by Kate Bengaard, November 04, 2007
Ever find yourself staring aimlessly into the depths of your walk-in? You may be thinking you need to go shopping, but the truth is you just need to get creative!

'Tis the season of layering, so experiment with different textures within the same color palette. For the most slenderizing look- stick to dark colors from head to toe. This monochromatic trick will elongate your body. For added sophistication and uniqueness, add a wide belt or big cuff bracelet.

Resurrect your favorite pieces by integrating them with simple basics. For example, dress up your everyday denim with a finely tailored tweed blazer and classic cable knit sweater.

Stumped as to what to wear to that holiday party? Consider pairing separates together for a formal and effortless look. Dig out that high waisted black pencil skirt and add a crisp, fitted button down collared shirt. Add a chunky necklace and some sexy heels- and viola! You are all set for a night out.

Even I, Style Contributor to Modern Mom, am a chronic sufferer of "I-have-nothing-to-wear-itis." I have discovered throughout my experience that clients benefit the most by understandng how to optimize their current wardrobe. So fear not, ladies! You are not alone! Be brave- and remember to think outside the box!

Is Shopping Really Dreadful to Everyone, or is it just me?
written by Cristi Babin Adkins, October 31, 2007
Kate Bengaard does a beautiful job at making shopping look easy and fun, and well, she just makes it look a lot nicer than it is.

Shopping for me is pretty much what I think of hell to be like. First there's the drive, traffice, cars...lot's of other cars...and well parking. The best part of shopping is really the parking as I can get my necessary caloric expenditure out of the way while I hike from the car to the entrance. Then another good 200 calories expended in walking from the entrance, to getting lost, dodging the crowd, and finding the right department store.

When I get tot he overcrowded isles, see tons of other clearly more experienced shopping women going through those messy racks and tables, I notice how their carts seemed to be filled to the brim with 'great purchases'...it's at that point the hives start.

What color do I choose? Is Calvin Klein still alive, I thought I wore his pants in the 80's...Is it really a bargain when it's 25% off of $500.00 for a sock? Why does my butt look like the size of Texas with this skirt on? Good Lord, I forgot to take my toenail polish off from last Valentines Day! Have I gone mad?

Am I alone in the world of shopping hell? Frankly, I've decided to put Kate to the test. I called her yesterday and we have a 'shopping' day planned. I was surprised at her quick wit, therepeutic voice attempting to calm me down over the entire experience...which for some crazy reason she's looking forward to.

At this point, I've decided she's affordable, swears she'll help me save money and choose a 'style' other than my mom jeans.

But can she really help me look like Iv'e lost 100 pounds while saving 100 dollars? I'll put her to the test tomorrow...she mentioned today in an email that she's already pulled 'coupons for Saks and Polo, We've already started saving money' and I cringe...what happened to Target and Kohl's? EEEGADS! WHat have I done?

I'll keep you posted, until then, my hair is like Britany Spears at the moment from pulling it out as I dread the upcoming Shopping Day.

Does anyone have a connectionto some Xanax? I might need it to get through the day...
