SUMMER CAMP: CAMP CREATIVITY
June 20–August 12, 2011
Dive into art this Summer at the Corcoran! Camp Creativity offers a wide variety of week-long studio art classes for ages 5–10 at the Georgetown campus, and ages 11-16 at the Downtown campus. Express Yourself!

Discover the techniques of Abstract Expressionist artists in the galleries, then express yourself with paint, color, and
gesture in the studio.

Blossoms in Bloom Photo Contest
Ages 8–16
Do you have an award-winning photo of this year's cherry blossoms in bloom? Submit one image (300 dpi) to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Portraits With a Purpose

How can portraits express identity? Explore a variety of portraiture from the 19th through the 21st centuries while investigating the techniques that artists use to reveal clues about personalities. Return to the studio, look inside yourself, and create your own 21st-century self-portrait.

JUNE
Sculpt it!
Family Workshop; Ages 5–7
Saturday, June 18; 10:30 a.m.–12 p.m.
$8 per child, Corcoran Members at the Family level and above $10 per child, Public
What kinds of things can you use to make a sculpture? Check out the variety of materials that artists use to create three-dimensional art—from mirrors, to spices, to bed sheets! In the studio, break away from traditional sculpture and get creative as you use a variety of materials to create your own three-dimensional masterpiece.

JULY
Paintings: It’s Personal
Family Workshop; Ages 8–12
Saturday, July 16; 10:30 a.m.–12 p.m.

$8 per child, Corcoran Members at the Family level and above; $10 per child, Public
How personal can a painting get? Explore mixed media paintings embedded with personal meaning and objects in our special exhibition NOW at the Corcoran: Chris Martin. After the tour, create your own painting that incorporates found objects and personal mementos. *Please bring one to three personal items such as favorite photos, CDs, or toys, that can be incorporated into a two dimensional artwork.

AUGUST
Light, Color, and Paint, Oh My!
Family Workshop; Ages 5–7
Saturday, August 20; 10:30 a.m.–12 p.m..

$8 per child, Corcoran Members at the Family level and above; $10 per child, Public
Journey into a world of fantastic color and luminous light in the Washington Color and Light exhibition. Return to the studio to experiment with the various techniques these artists used to apply paint—including pouring paint onto canvas and using masking tape to make perfectly straight lines!
