Pre-K through Kindergarten Director: Tanya Johnson, Administrator- Paru Rellan.
Basic Background: The school first opened January 31st 2005 and is an initiate member of AMS , meaning they are a candidate for accreditation. They are licensed by the state of Virginia.
Mission Statement: “At Willow Montessori our goal is to create an environment for a child that is safe and nurturing and prepared for a child's endless abilities. We pride ourselves on our dedication and commitment to excellence and love for children.”
Teacher/Student information: The school’s current enrollment is 120 students, with low student/teacher ratios – toddler classes are 1:5, and primary (ages 3-6) ratios are 1:10. According to school administrator Paru Rellan, teachers at the school are both well-trained and well-treated. “We had all but two teachers return this past year. Almost all assistants returned as well.”
Teacher Certification: Each lead teacher is required to have a Montessori certificate from a recognized and accredited institution. The average experience for their teachers ranges from two to ten years.
Testing: Ms. Rellan states that “We do not conduct any standardized tests. It is quite contrary to the Montessori Teaching philosophy.”
Enrichment: Willow Montessori has computers in each class and encourage educational software use because, as Ms. Rellan says, “the computer and internet are incredible tools that can be used to enhance and teach children of all ages.”
Tuition and other costs: Their tuition is very competitive compared to other Montessori and private schools in the area. They offer an array of activities and even enrichment programs for public school Kindergarten children.
Regional Makeup: About 95% of their enrolled children come from Loudoun County, with the remaining students coming from surrounding areas, including Maryland.
What makes Willow Montessori unique? They are the only Montessori School in Ashburn that offers an enrichment program and bus service for public school Kindergarteners. They bus the children from the public school to Willow and provide lunch, as well as an afternoon enrichment program. They are also the only Montessori school Ashburn that offers part time Toddler and Primary Programs.
