Salon O'Tony - Vienna, VA | Reviews

Salon O'Tony was the site of many firsts for this reviewer. We had to wait. An hour. Not a great start, was the first thought, until we noticed how involved Tony was with his client. Totally immersed. We want that attention too we decided, and relaxed. It was well worth the wait.

Tony, co-owner, with his brother Mustafa, of this unassuming salon located on Main Street in Vienna, brought us to his chair, looked at our hair wondering if we had personally applied our last hair color. Aghast we told him we had spent quite a few hundred dollars on our normal salon visit. He then showed us how wrong our hair had been cut! Yikes. Our next first was not being asked to change into a gown. Tony applied the hair color with not even a towel in site. Lastly, after cutting, he straightened our normally straight hair. What?!! But the result produced another first: Husband noticed haircut.

Tony is a master haircutter. He started in the business when he was 8 years old working in his uncle’s hair salon in Turkey, giving his first haircut at 13 to a teacher who not only loved it, but also used him to cut her hair from then on. Moving to the US, he worked at Vidal Sassoon in New York City and eventually made his way to Virginia. “My haircuts,” he says, “are all about making women feel good about themselves. I want women to have a haircut that makes them smile. It should be something that is easy and looks great.”

Tony and Mustafa are currently planning to conduct seminars, teaching women how to best care for and work with their hair, the best products to use, and the best haircut for their lifestyle and face. Call 703-281-3191 for a list of upcoming classes. As we were leaving, we approached one of the salon’s clients, Erika. She told us she’s been a customer since 2005. “Plain and simple,” she said, “they’re just good.” Yep.

October 2011 Just picked up a copy at my daughter's Little Gym class and found myself reading it instead of my Kindle! Enjoyed many of the essays, particularly the first year teacher at an inner-city school...and so many other articles. Kristine Meldrum Denholm, freelance journalist
