Scott and Janice are no strangers to both Ashburn and the restaurant industry. They have been living in the Broadlands community for a long time and Janice has been working in the industry since she was 14 years old. Scott is a veteran of Palm’s restaurant chain. We first visited American Flatbread in May of 2007. We were very excited to try an all-natural pizza using local and organic ingredients
from the Loudoun County community. We walked in to find a clean and simple dining
area with a huge brick oven as the focal point. We sat down and ordered the Evolution Salad, which was topped off with toasted sesame seeds and their delicious homemade vinaigrette. We tried New Virginia Sausage pizza. It is topped with naturally raised Bluemont maple-fennel pork sausage with caramelized onions and sun-dried tomatoes. The crust was light and crispy and the sausage had a delightfully unique flavor; not to mention it was a very generous size for two.
Whether or not you are a vegetarian, you must try our favorite pizza, Punctuated Equilibrium. It is topped with Calamata olives, sweet red peppers, goat cheese, fresh rosemary, red onions, mozzarella and garlic. Janice Vasko, one of the owners, is open to her customer’s suggestions. Whether being asked to open for lunch, start serving bread with dipping sauce, accept to go orders, offer 1/2 price wines (Mondays), or add more salads to the menu, she complies with all.
American Flatbread does not only promote healthy living for Loudoun County families, it also supports our local farmers by using their meat, vegetables and herbs. It is a great place to take the whole family.
