The company website describes this restaurant as a “visual and culinary adventure” and I wholeheartedly agree. Nestled behind landscaped woods, 2941 is not in a place that you will easily notice driving by. In fact, even with assistance from my GPS, I missed the location on my first try. Driving up on the narrow, winding road, you are greeted by a beautifully designed glass and metal office building. 2941 occupies the bottom floor directly facing the big man-made pond. The entrance to the restaurant is adorned with waterfalls and Koi ponds featuring numerous large, colorful Japanese fish. Inside, you are greeted and seated at your table by the friendly maitre d’, Rachid LaKroune.

The menu is designed by French executive chef Bertrand Chemel who served as Chef de Cuisine of Café Boulud in the Upper East Side of New York. The lunch menu featured a $29.41 Prix Fixe similar to the one at Charlie Palmer Steak House in D.C. In these tough economic times, Prix Fixe lunches are some of the best ways you can still enjoy delightfully brilliant food in luxurious establishments.

Majestic Café has been in operation on King Street since 1932. Starting in 2007, it has been operating with the addition of new investors, including Virginia Governor Mark Warner, and a very talented chef, Shannon Overmiller. I decided to give Majestic a try during a busy Friday lunch time.

As you enter this landmark, everything including the beautiful full bar looks the same, yet updated. The walls are painted with light-colored paint and the giant framed mirrors add depth to this narrow restaurant. In the tray ceiling, cascading dry wall is mixed with old style silver-colored metal panels. Directly in front of you is the open kitchen, slightly elevated and buzzing with the chef ’s energy. My favorite hotel chain (that I can afford) is Starwood Hotels. Out of the hotels that the group owns I like Westins for their consistently high quality service and food they offer. Vinifera Wine Bar and Bistro located in Reston did not disappoint me with the quality of service and food.

I visited Vinifera on a Saturday evening. I had made reservations using OpenTable and I was greeted joyfully by the staff. It turned out I did not have to make a reservation as there were only few patrons in the restaurant and most of them seemed to be hotel guests. I sat by the window and ordered an appetizer, Charcuterie Sampling. Charcuterie in French means delicatessen and the sampling of cold cuts did not disappoint me. I tasted Mortadella, Soppressata, Bresaola, and Chorizo with pickled carrots, and celery.

1. GLORY DAYS GRILL
This sports-influenced hotspot includes any kind of ‘All-American’ food you can think of: burgers, fries, chicken fingers, wings, etc. Although it may not be the healthiest option for your kids, Glory Days is a great one-time treat, as it not only houses the best bad-for-you food around, but is also outlined with tons of sports and cartoon-playing television screens.
