Vinifera Wine Bar & Bistro

11750 Sunrise Valley Drive Reston, VA 20191
703-234-3550

Located in Reston’s Westin Hotel, Vinifera is an upscale eatery with a contemporary interior. An informed sommelier in tow, this place has a Cruvinet wine dispensing and storage system that keeps twenty-four bottles at the correct temperature. The restaurant’s wine cellar is also temperature and humidity controlled with over 200 labels to choose from including a decent collection of organic wines. As with other wine bars, flights are offered in two-ounce pours.

The Wine Kitchen

The Wine Kitchen7 South King Street, Leesburg, VA 20175

A great addition to the Leesburg dining scene, the forty-seat restaurant on South King Street has been getting a lot of attention since opening their doors late last year. In going with the current trend of nodécor- is-the-new-décor, the Wine Kitchen sports bare bulbs and café-like blackboard menus. Wines are sold by tastings, glass or bottle and patrons are given a $10 discount when a bottle is purchased to go. We recommend the eclectic flights.

Greek and Italian cooking are two of the major cuisines in the world. So why would anyone decide to merge the two? I do not know the answer to that, but the end result is a menu with more than a hundred items. I did not try anyone of the Italian foods off the menu, but concentrated on the Greek dishes that are native to the owner’s country of origin.

Desiderio Italian- American Grill

Northern Virginia. It is known as the lover’s state, has some of the most historical areas in the country, is famous for its’ wineries, and gorgeous sceneries. Lastly and most importantly, NoVA is home to a host of wonderful culinary gems hidden away inside the plethora of mini malls that dot the landscape. While this phenomenon is more apparent east of Manassas, things seem to be changing for those of us living in historically overlooked areas. Enter Desiderio, a new Italian restaurant in Gainesville that I happened upon a few days ago. Like so many other NoVA hotspots, Desiderio is located in a mini mall.

Amoo’s House of Kabob

6271-A Old Dominion Drive McLean, VA 22101
703-448-8500
As you approach the door of Amoo’s, located in an unassuming mini strip mall, a temporary banner sign greets you “Best Food Around.” I could not think of a better way to describe this restaurant. Do not go to Amoo’s for the ambiance, as you will be disappointed. You may not even want to go for the service, as I will explain a little later. Do go for the best kabobs in the McLean area.
