Mari Vanna’s “babushka” inspired paintings and antique furniture may be styled like your Russian grandmother’s tea-house decorated parlor, but the vibe is just as fun and bold as her vibrant headscarf. Located near Connecticut Avenue’s Mayflower Hotel (Farragut West metro stop), just a few blocks down from Dupont Circle, Mari Vanna offers an exclusive, high-end ambience that could quickly make it a neighborhood hot spot.
During their soft-opening preview event on January 16, front of the house managers handed out keys to the restaurant’s front door. Every Monday night after dinner service, Mari Vanna closes its doors to everyone but key holders (or those who know which of their dozen door bells to ring), a brilliantly planned incentive to draw in Monday night-lifers and add that exciting speakeasy-esque elusiveness.
