Vinifera Wine Bar and Bistro

Vinifera Wine Bar and Bistro
My favorite hotel chain (that I can afford) is Starwood Hotels. Out of the hotels that the group owns I like Westins for their consistently high quality service and food they offer. Vinifera Wine Bar and Bistro located in Reston did not disappoint me with the quality of service and food.

I visited Vinifera on a Saturday evening. I had made reservations using OpenTable and I was greeted joyfully by the staff. It turned out I did not have to make a reservation as there were only few patrons in the restaurant and most of them seemed to be hotel guests. I sat by the window and ordered an appetizer, Charcuterie Sampling. Charcuterie in French means delicatessen and the sampling of cold cuts did not disappoint me. I tasted Mortadella, Soppressata, Bresaola, and Chorizo with pickled carrots, and celery.

This sports-influenced hotspot includes any kind of ‘All-American’ food you can think of: burgers, fries, chicken fingers, wings, etc. Although it may not be the healthiest option for your kids, Glory Days is a great one-time treat, as it not only houses the best bad-for-you food around, but is also outlined with tons of sports and cartoon-playing television screens.

Bazin' sFinally, the New Guard Is Moving in to Vienna
For years, my impression of Vienna has been one of a “clique neighborhood” with an unchangeable pattern and landscape. It seemed as if established Vienna landmark restaurants like Nizam and others, tending to older couples with the men wearing sports jackets and ties, were going to remain unchecked. Couple of new construction projects on Church Street is changing the old façade of Vienna. It is slowly turning into a place you may want to visit even if you don’t live there. Bazin’s can be one of your starting points.

Jackson's Mighty Fine Food & Lucky Lounge

Jackson's Mighty Fine Food & Lucky LoungeA Mighty Fine Tribute to an Old Friend, Bill Jackson
Bill Jackson was an 18 year veteran chef of Great American Restaurants (GAR) chain. You probably know and frequent most of their restaurants including Coastal Flats, Sweetwater. Sadly, Bill passed suffered from Lou Gehrig’s disease and passed away in March of 2008. Ever grateful, GAR named their new location after his last name, Jackson’s.

When you enter the restaurant, you notice Bill’s likeness blended into most of the mural paintings. Menu includes old familiar dishes like crab cakes and chocolate waffles. New items like steak frites and sushi rolls show the owners appetite for risk taking with this new establishment. If you are inclined to order a sushi roll, the menu warns you “We are new at this, be patient with us. You'll get it when you get it." Casualness of the menu is reflected in the diner like (fancier than a regular one) environment and the 2 bars that can hold up to 250 patrons.

Bistro Pasargad

Bistro Pasargad

I truly enjoy seeing the emergence of second generation ethnic food restaurants in our area. They remain true to the essence of their food origins while experimenting with the way they are ordered and served in upgraded surroundings. Prior to visiting Bistro Pasargad with my family for a Saturday dinner outing, I looked at available pictures on the web. What I saw made me anticipate the visit.
