Organize your Closet

15 Quick Tips to Create More Space

Need more space in your closets? Use these (in no particular order) 15 Quick Tips to help you get an organizing jump-start:

1. Relocate any items that don’t belong in your closet – including the coffee can full of loose change and old photo albums.
2. Remove empty hangers.
3. Pick up everything from the floor and return to proper place.
4. Increase lighting options – clutter tends to grow in the dark.
5. Think vertical for storage and seldom used items.
6. Store off-season clothing in another closet or cedar storage in basement.
7. Focus on options and flexibility.
8. Sort and donate outdated, worn, outgrown garments to those who really need them.
9. Employ a hamper or basket for laundry collection.
10. Install hooks for robes, scarves and belts.
11. Utilize shelves for folded items, purses and shoes.
12. Use bins for small items – store like with like.
13. Be mindful of need versus want: sometimes less truly is more!
14. Use flexible closet systems that will adapt to changing needs.
15. Improve closet ventilation by weeding out crowded clothing items.
