Organize your Children Bathroom

Need more space in your closets? Use these (in no particular order)
17 Quick Tips to help you (and your kids!) get an organizing jump-start:

1. Involve your children in the organizing process to promote ownership of individual spaces.
2. Make seasonal downsizing a fun event by donating forgotten toys and clothing to a local homeless shelter.
3. Include a wastebasket and laundry hamper in each bedroom.
4. Use over-the-door vinyl pouch organizers for small clothing items, shoes, stuffed animals or school supplies..
5. Incorporate in-closet drawer systems to keep main bedroom space open and clear.
6. Install high shelves around perimeter of walls to showcase awards and collectibles.
7. Use clear plastic shoebox storage containers to hold small items.
8. Clear space in your linen closet – store each child’s extra bedding in clear, under-the-bed storage bags.
9. Make sure storage solutions fit the child. Keep most often used items on low shelves for easy access and put-away.
10. Label drawers and bins with both words and pictures of contents.
11. Set aside “put-away” time every evening to keep bedrooms clean and clutter-free.
12. Convert dressers to open shelving; remove lower drawers and fill with plastic storage containers.
13. Keep systems simple and easy to maintain.
14. Incorporate a flexible filing system for each child’s school work, pictures, cards, awards & certificates, art projects and writing assignments.
15. Provide lots of shelving for shoes, books, sporting gear, often-used toys and games.
16. Create a rotation system for toys, games and books.
17. Set a good example by keeping other areas of your home organized.

October 2011 Just picked up a copy at my daughter's Little Gym class and found myself reading it instead of my Kindle! Enjoyed many of the essays, particularly the first year teacher at an inner-city school...and so many other articles. Kristine Meldrum Denholm, freelance journalist
