Quirky, fun and colorful. The place just puts the diner in a good mood.
While much of what’s on the menu are familiar items, as the name of the restaurant suggests, these are not your average dishes. What sets NYAJ apart are a few things: Fresh, locally produced ingredients; chef created dishes; from-scratch cooking.
We ordered a few dishes to start and understood immediately, that indeed, this was not your average place. The Shrimp Mozambique was amazing. Fresh and crispy semolina coated jumbo shrimp were served with a spicy garlic and saffron aioli. I also tried the Ahi Tuna Wontons, and was thoroughly delighted by the texture and taste. The wontons were spiced with Japanese chili, and topped off with rare-seared sesame crusted tuna, with pickled ginger and wasabi aioli.
For the entrée I ordered the Cranberry-Teriyaki Chicken with Butternut Squash Cannellonis. This was a dish that I feel will cause massive cravings at some point in the near future. Juicy pan seared chicken breasts, with a cranberry teriyaki glaze served with delicious house made butternut squash cannellonis and sautéed spinach. The presentation alone was enough to get a good rating, but the taste of this dish was a perfect juxtaposition of mildly sweet with the familiar texture and flavor of sautéed chicken, butternut squash and spinach. A perfect moderately priced winter treat.
Friendly and involved, these servers are always at your beck and call.
