It looks easy enough in the catalogues and home shows, and when it comes to creating a new look for your home, the process can be as easy as it looks. Here are some tips to make it fun and simple.

1. Identify your personal style. Is it contem porary, traditional, flamboyant or urban rustic? Look at items around your home for indicators.

2. Color will be the primary element you respond to. Look for colors that express your personal style. Stay away from prints and graphic designs as they become “dated” quickly.

3. Accessorize the sofa and room with pillows, art and accessories that show your personality. This will allow you to change the whole look of the room season by season or year by year without changing the core furniture.

4. Space planning–keep the dimensions of the room you are shopping for in perspective. Consider space.

5. Determine your budget and buy the best you can afford. Don’t settle for a sofa that is nominally less expensive than the one you really want, because you will not be sorry you spent the extra dollars.

6. There are many shopping options in Loudoun County. Consider stores that allow you to be versatile with fabric, color and design.

7. If you are still lost, hire an interior refiner. You will be able to obtain a personal look without throwing money away.
