Middle Eastern Restaurants by I AM Modern Magazine
for Northern Virginia and Metro DC
As you approach the door of Amoo’s, located in an unassuming mini strip mall, a temporary banner sign greets you “Best Food Around.” I could not think of a better way to describe this restaurant. Do not go to Amoo’s for the ambiance, as you will be disappointed. You may not even want to go for the service, as I will explain a little later. Do go for the best kabobs in the McLean area.
When you walk through the door, you are greeted with customary Persian tile and marble contractor displays. Ignore those. They have nothing to do with the food you are about to have. Service is going to be slow; be prepared and ignore your waiter/waitress’ attitude. Our waiter du jour was a young teenager who spoke at a frequency that could only be understood by bats. We communicated by pointing to what we wanted on the menu. As an appetizer, order either the Mast-o Mooseer, which is a chopped sun-dried Persian shallots in yoghurt, or the Mast-o khiyar, which is diced cucumbers in yogurt flavored with crushed dried mint leaves. They are served with thin flat bread and you will be 100% satisfied with the refreshing taste of these appetizers.

Enjoying Panjshir Restaurant
Deciding to roam out of my comfort zone, I chose to experience the Afghan cuisine and went to Panjshir in Falls Church, Virginia, Zagat rated for its authentic Afghan food. Curious as to what the name of the restaurant meant, I found out “Panjshir” is a province of Afghanistan. The place was quaint. One of the tiniest restaurants I’ve ever been to, I can’t imagine more than thirty people in there at a time. Located downtown, it was off a main street. The staff was very attentive and tight knit. The menu offered many wonderful dishes. I wanted to try a bite of everything.

Located in Gainesville, VA off of Route 29, is Nora's Taste of Lebanon, a casual and cute Lebanese cafe.
Inside the restaurant you’ll find a quaint and cozy seating arrangement and will be surrounded by pictures of various scenes from Lebanon. The staff is friendly and warm, making you feel right at home. The restaurant serves some of the best and most authentic Lebanese food that I've had in Northern Virginia. The food is of high quality and really tastes like the food I’ve enjoyed in Lebanon.

Best kabob you will ever eat in Northern Virginia, and OMG, it’s in the mall!
You are in the mall and your feet are aching. You spent way too much and you didn’t even buy what you came in to get. Kids are screaming more than usual. Wait. There is bliss right around the corner and it’s called Grill Kabob. We can hear Gregorian chants as we say the name. When we eat there, we are one piece of baklava away from heaven. The Middle Eastern eatery is a mom’s dream come true. They are renown for their chicken kabobs. They serve the juicy tender pieces of white chicken meat chargrilled over an open fire and served over two types of rice, one spiced and one perfectly buttered.
