One foot, two feet, one fish, many fish
Written by Hulya Aksu
Wednesday, 06 August 2008

I know you may have already seen this rather puzzling site of little fish feasting on the dead-skin on the feet of women and men in Alexandria. Yvonne Hair and Nail Salon to be exact. Talk about publicity! My first reaction was disgust and a little shock.

Than I read the article about the business owners that brought this old Turkish practice for treating psoriasis to the US. I thought... Turkey. Couldn't be. I am Turkish and we never let our fish eat feet.

Fields of Athenry
Written by Jessamyn Ayers
Saturday, 02 August 2008

With an increasing consumer emphasis on and desire for locally grown foods, Boland feels it is imperative for farmers like her to trust, know and support one another.

Fields of Athenry, a 32-acre farm in Purcellville, is the stuff stories are made of. Literally. Farm owner Elaine Boland has written a children’s book inspired by the myriad adventures involving the animals on her farm. Narrated by Sushi, her Cairn terrier and accompanied by lively watercolor illustrations, the stories contain the same reverence and enthusiasm that Boland feels for farm living. Fortunately for Loudoun residents, her enthusiasm tumbles into her business.

some money saving tips for your home

• If you are using stone for accent pieces or a small bath check to see if the stone provider has remnant stock at a reduced price. (Remnant pieces in stone are usually the last pieces of a lot.)

 • If you are installing a kitchen or multiple projects, you have more bargaining power and are more likely to receive a larger discount if you do the projects simultaneously

• Go to a fabricator directly; this cuts out the middle man saving you time and money for your project. Fabricators have quicker turnaround times.

inspiring kids to do homework
Written by Web Admin
Saturday, 02 August 2008

While we may not be able to get our children to love doing their homework, there are a few things we can do to help kids turn off the television and pick up a textbook. The task of keeping the interest for school work alive at home can be challenging however, the children that plan ahead, have regular routines and who complete assigned homework, are more likely to succeed at school. In Loudoun, the level of involvement is most intense during elementary school but with the habits placed early enough in kids, they are sure to succeed and do homework on their own in the later years without parental involvement. | By Colleen Baker
