The bond is powered by knowing that no matter what happened at school that day, your horse will be eagerly waiting for you to come ride.
What makes girls and horses inseparable? This bond is powered by the gentle touch of a soft horse nose sniffing for a sugar cube, or the excitement of wind rushing through pulled-back hair as horse and rider canter across the arena. Ultimately, the bond is powered by knowing that no matter what happened at school that day, your horse will be eagerly waiting for you to come ride.
When a girl and her horse spend quality time together, important character traits are developed that will serve her into adulthood. While a 100-pound girl cannot dominate a 1,000-pound horse using brute strength, she can control him using mental focus and correct technique. As she develops judgment and problem-solving skills, she can get a horse to do exactly what she wants, even though horses are living, thinking creatures that act based on their instincts.
Mackenzie Dickson from Ashburn, now a sophomore in college, says, “I started riding when I was 11. Taking my riding lesson was the best part of my week. My horse’s name was Sebastian and he patiently trotted and cantered around the arena while I worked on my balance and position. When we started doing small jumps, he trusted me to bring him to the jump straight and smooth so he could do his best. I remember feeling like I was flying! I took with me from riding the idea that proper technique, hard work and trust build relationships that produce great results!”
Success on the horse comes as the young rider learns to communicate in a clear, firm, and fair manner. The process of learning to do this unlocks a rider’s confidence, which will give a young girl the ability to take control of her life as she builds a relationship with the horse.
