Jewell Green | Modern Woman in VA

jewell_green3Jewell Green, wife of former Washington Redskin and Pro Football Hall of Famer Darrell Green, is a powerhouse in her own right. In 2007 she launched Posh Couture, a fashion boutique based in Ashburn, VA that has recently expanded to an online shopping site (shopposhboutique. com). “Posh Couture began with our going to market and bringing back exciting and unique clothing and accessories for women that are different from what you find in more traditional stores,” Jewell says. Besides her business, she is the mother to Jerrell 24, Jared 22 and Joi 20.

What is your dream job/career?
I have to say it's exactly what I'm doing right now! My job is being the best wife and mother I can be and my career, of course, is informing women and making them look amazing!

Have a guilty pleasure?
I love to read love stories! When the knight in shining armor promises to love and cherish the girl. My favorite!

What did your parents teach you about parenting?
Everything! My parents always put us first and there was never a question about their love or commitment to meeting our needs. I always felt safe and adored. Priceless!

How are you most like your mom?
We are so much alike it's hilarious! First of all, we are both born leaders and love order. We are also slight perfectionists...okay, we thrive on it.

Do you have a favorite DC hangout?
That's an easy one! I'm a Washingtonian and there is no place better than shopping in Georgetown!
Finish the sentence: in 10 years I see myself… Being the hottest grandma ever!

What motivates you?
My husband. He has a drive that is inspiring!

What is your current state of mind?
Satisfied and fulfilled.

What is your greatest hope?
That people would become more caring and giving of themselves.

Do you have a plan for world domination? What's next for you?
Our family is launching a new company: Walk Fit Health Nation, check it out at walkfithealth.com. We want to transform the way people view fitness and go back to basics.

How involved are Darrel and your children in your business?
Our house is full of entrepreneurs. We are all involved on some level with all of the companies. Darrell helps me with everything from marketing to entertaining husbands at my parties.

Let’s talk more about your business; what ignited the spark that formed Posh Couture?
I was choosing outfits for women all over the country. I had to turn it into a business.

If you could give three pieces of advise to college students who were interested in becoming entrepreneurs what would it be?
(1) Work hard, (2) Stay consistent, and (3) Understand that great things take time.

How would you define the top skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?
Master your industry. Display great work ethics at all times. Be able to articulate what you do clearly and concisely.

Has your company changed much over the past 5 years?
I have broadened our product content to stay current with today's modern woman. She is ever changing and developing new facets of herself. I have to have what she needs as well as introduce her to new products and services.

What do you feel is the major difference between entrepreneurs and those who work for someone else?
The fear factor. Entrepreneurs must be fearless! They have to have faith that what they've planned will materialize before they can see it. When you work for someone else, you only have to do what you were hired to do. Entrepreneurs have vision that could never be contained in someone else's office.

October 2011 Just picked up a copy at my daughter's Little Gym class and found myself reading it instead of my Kindle! Enjoyed many of the essays, particularly the first year teacher at an inner-city school...and so many other articles. Kristine Meldrum Denholm, freelance journalist
