Vapiano is an international restaurant phenomenon growing very rapidly in more than 17 countries. Their growth plans are very aggressive within the US, especially in Virginia and Maryland areas with the additions of Reston, Georgetown, Bethesda and Baltimore locations to the existing four.

Vapiano catches your attention with its’ simple menu of pasta, pizza and salads. The concept is described as “somewhere between the nicest of fast casual and hippest of casual dining restaurants.” The next thing that catches your attention is the interior decoration. The restaurant combines the styles of chic European restaurants with hip W hotels. All locations have trendy and stylish bar area with comfortable leather seats and roomy dining floor filled with fresh basil plants.

Northern Virginia. It is known as the lover’s state, has some of the most historical areas in the country, is famous for its’ wineries, and gorgeous sceneries. Lastly and most importantly, NoVA is home to a host of wonderful culinary gems hidden away inside the plethora of mini malls that dot the landscape. While this phenomenon is more apparent east of Manassas, things seem to be changing for those of us living in historically overlooked areas. Enter Desiderio, a new Italian restaurant in Gainesville that I happened upon a few days ago. Like so many other NoVA hotspots, Desiderio is located in a mini mall.

Il Fornaio

In the tradition of Italy ‘s trattorias, the sights, sounds and aromas of authentic Italian cuisine are recreated fresh everyday at Il Fornaio Cucina Italiana. The restaurant has a modern yet warm ambiance with towering mirrors and a beautiful white marble bar. The main dining area and kitchen utilize open design to bring the patrons and chefs together. I highly recommend the Cappellacci Di Zucca for a main course. The unique combination of walnuts and butternut squash gently packaged in ravioli made from scratch is fantastic.

Be sure to enjoy the crisp crusted bread before your main meal. The prices are moderate to high. Service is good. Il Fornaio has plenty of outdoor seating overlooking one of the new common areas in the Reston Town Center. Be sure to stop by for a late morning coffee or a cocktail in the evening.
