Institute of Facial & Cosmetic Surgery

Stepping into this pleasant office, you are immediately plunged into a ‘spa mood’ when your senses are surrounded by soothing music, running water fountains, and aromatherapy. Botox (sold in units), fillers, facials, etc. are all part of what you will find here, but if laser treatment is what you’re after, then this is the place. They take their laser seriously here, as all laser work is done by doctors (except laser hair removal, which is performed by a nurse).

I met with Dr. Suketu Patel, one of the spa’s board certified surgeons to discuss the benefits of Micro Laser peels. Micro Laser peels are used for skin resurfacing and because it removes tissue deeper into the epidermis, it is typically performed with topical anesthetic. Results are removal of fine wrinkles, sun damage and pigmental changes, which leave a tighter and fresher looking skin. There is recovery time of about 3-4 days, but clients should expect immediate and significant change in skin texture and tightness lasting approximately 18 months.

Dr. Patel asked if I wanted to watch a young man have acne scars removed from his face (this was his third or fourth peel). Watching behind safety glasses, Dr. Patel applied the laser and a thin burst of flames appeared. The patient said, it didn’t hurt, ‘merely stung a little bit,’ and chose not to have any anesthetic. After the peel, he was sent home with some products to help the skin recover from what might appear to be a mild sunburn.

In view of the amazing transformation on the gentleman’s face, it is something that should be a consideration for those wanting more than microdermabrasion and less than the more aggressive surgical skin resurfacing associated with prolonged recovery.
