Hot Breads Indian Bakery - Chantilly, VA | Reviews

If you live in Northern Virginia, chances are you have eaten from European or even Korean bakeries, but the chances are you have never eaten at an Indian bakery. I am certain that this bakery is well known and very popular to our region’s grow ing Indian population.

Tucked away in an ordinary strip mall, Hot Breads is anything but ordinary. As you can expect from an India bakery, they offer a rich variety of Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian delicacies. I recently dropped by for a quick late afternoon snack and sampled Vegetable stuffed Croissant, Chicken Tikka Bun and Nankhatai Cookies with Almond. I washed them down with small bottle of Mango Juice.

Vegetable stuffed Croissant is a square shaped pastry and as the name suggests stuffed with chopped vegetables cooked with Indian spices like curry. It is spicy and tasty. Chicken Tikka with its’ bright red color covering is one of my favorite Indian dishes. Hot Breads chops the Chicken Tikka into dime size pieces and stuffs them into bun like bread. I usually ask the staff to put it in the microwave for a short time in order to further bring out the flavors. On my way out, I picked up a box of Nankhatai Cookies with Almonds. These are eggless Vegan cookies that look and for the most part, taste like sugar cookies except that they have a kick. They are soft and chewy and you would surely impress your guests and/or your family with them.

During this visit, I have not tried the Paninis or Wraps, but I recommend that you try out some of the Vegetarian (Veggie Burger) and Non-Vegetarian (Chicken Curry Panini) varieties.

October 2011 Just picked up a copy at my daughter's Little Gym class and found myself reading it instead of my Kindle! Enjoyed many of the essays, particularly the first year teacher at an inner-city school...and so many other articles. Kristine Meldrum Denholm, freelance journalist
