Grace Keenan, MD Elected a “Top Doctor” in Northern Virginia

Board Certified Internist Dr. Grace Keenan, Medical Director and CEO of Nova Medical & Urgent Care Center, Inc. and an I Am Modern featured woman, is named one of Northern Virginia’s “Top Internists” in Northern Virginia Magazine’s “Top Doctors 2011” issue.

“I am truly honored to have been recognized among this community of exceptional physicians,” Dr. Keenan says.  “I find it hard to believe that I have been practicing in Northern Virginia for more than 20 years.  I am grateful for the opportunity to have helped so many people optimize their health, and continue to be appreciative of the ongoing support that I have received from this community.”

The annual “Top Doctors” list is usually generated solely through peer nominations.  This year, in addition to peer nominations, Northern Virginia Magazine worked with nine local hospitals and asked each of them to put together a panel of head doctors to discriminatively look at doctors with privileges at their hospital.  According to Northern Virginia Magazine, each panel nominated doctors based on all of the internal tools they are privileged to, including: internal evaluations, patient reviews, and overall quality of care (patient access, training, unblemished records, and how the doctor works with other staff).  Dr. Keenan has privileges at Inova Loudoun Hospital and Reston Hospital Center; she was elected as a “Top Doctor” by the panelists.

A native of Canada, Dr. Keenan received her medical degree from Memorial University School of Medicine in Newfoundland, Canada in 1985.  Upon successful completion of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at St. Thomas Hospital Center in Akron, OH, she relocated to Loudoun County and began private practice in 1988.  The previous sole proprietorship became Nova Medical Group; today it is the largest primary care practice in Loudoun County with locations in Ashburn, Sterling, Leesburg, and Warrenton.  She has been certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine since 1988, and received her certification from the Board of Integrative and Holistic Medicine in 2009.  She is also board certified in Anti-Aging medicine by 4AM.

Dr. Keenan is actively involved with the local community; she is a Clinical Assistant Professor for Georgetown University’s Department of Medicine, an Affiliate Faculty at George Mason University, a Certified Medical Examiner for the FAA, and serves on the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.  In addition, she is the former president of the Loudoun County Medical Society, past medical examiner for Loudoun County, and was an Assistant Professor at the University of Virginia Medical School.

Dr. Keenan’s professional memberships include: the Loudoun County Medical Society, American Association of Medical Review Officers, American Professional Practice Association, Medical Society of Virginia, American College of Physicians, American Medical Association, and Medical Group Management Association (MGMA).

October 2011 Just picked up a copy at my daughter's Little Gym class and found myself reading it instead of my Kindle! Enjoyed many of the essays, particularly the first year teacher at an inner-city school...and so many other articles. Kristine Meldrum Denholm, freelance journalist
