“He sees you when you’re sleeping, he knows when you’re awake, he knows if you’ve been bad or good so be good for goodness sake.” If you didn’t know what this line was referring to it could sound like a creepy stalker’s got your number. Have you ever wondered, though, how Santa knows these things?
Let me introduce you to Elf on the Shelf. Maybe you’ve heard of him, maybe you have him already, maybe you have no idea what I’m talking about, but Elf on the Shelf should become your next holiday tradition.
The Elf on the Shelf is sold as a gift box set containing your elf and the Elf on the Shelf storybook. The tradition begins after Thanksgiving when Santa sends his scout elves out to children’s homes to keep an eye on them year after year. When the children name their special elf he receives his magic, which allows him to fly to the North Pole at night to report to Santa whether the children are being naughty or nice. Every morning, the elf will reappear in a different spot in the house to keep an eye on the children. On Christmas Eve the elf will fly back to the North Pole, where he will stay until sometime after the next year’s Thanksgiving.
I love the Elf on the Shelf because it embodies the joy and excitement that Christmas represents to families all around the world. There’s nothing like seeing the happiness on the faces of your children when the elf appears after Thanksgiving and watching them search enthusiastically for him every morning.
Another product that makes this tradition fun is that you can now turn your scout elf into a girl. These adorable little skirts slip right over the elf’s body, transforming “him” into a “her.”
One word of caution about the Elf on the Shelf: Once the elf receives his magic make sure you behave. If Santa finds out you’ve been naughty you might just find coal in your stocking on Christmas morning.
