WHO IS VAL?

Hi my name is Val Cavalheri.

Last week I had the pleasure of meeting some powerful and awesome ladies at the Modern Mom get together at San Vito’s in South Riding. One of the feedbacks that I received, once I was introduced as “the Val who is losing weight,” was that no one really knew too much about me--other than that I was losing weight publicly.

When I first started this venture, I wanted to be ‘everywoman’. Thinking that all the readers out there could better identify their own weight loss issues with someone who was more like them, whoever “they” might be. I found, during that evening, that people really wanted to know who I was. So here goes: Read More about Val

Digg!

Until a couple of days ago, I was guess-timating that I should be eating about 2,000 calories. Don’t know why I picked that number, but that’s what I had been using until I found a couple of websites that help you figure out what it actually should be. I was WAY OFF. I actually need to eat a MINIMUM of 3100 calories. Go figure. Here is one of the websites: http://www.dallasdietitian.com

Speaking of exercising (OK, OK, I wasn’t but I do think about it a lot) a friend of mine recommended this website: http://www.mapmyrun.com/ where you plug in your ZIP code and get all sorts of interesting jogging/running routes and trails AND it helps with calculating, mileage, calories, etc.

Last week I mentioned that I’ve been reading everything I can get my hands on about weight control and as I began to take it all in, I would like to share these with you:

• Using a small salad plate will help you eat 30% fewer calories.
• Drink out of skinny glasses and you’ll drink 28% less
• Those who monitor their eating and exercising over a 6 month period show a loss of more than 20 pounds during that time
• Sleeping seven hours or more per night generated a loss of 14 pounds over a 3 month period
• Drinking eight glasses of water will help you lose 7 pounds in a year
• Those who weigh themselves every day will typically lose 7 pounds over a two month period than those who don’t.
• Watching less than 2 hours of TV per day helps to lose 7% more weight over a period of a year
• Sacrifice one small snack that you have every day, let's say a handful of chips equaling 100 calories, and over the course of a year you will lose over ten pounds!

So, if my calculations are correct, I should weight 95 pounds within 6 months. Do you have an interesting tip to share on how you’ve lost weight in the past? Thinly, Val
