Digg!

I’ve mentioned before that I have some really great friends. They accept me for who I am (most of the time) and put up with my craziness and “New York ways.” They are such good friends, except for one major flaw: WHY do they all have to be so thin?

There is my dear friend Barb. She is 90 pounds soaking wet. She’s also petite and muscular. There is Diane—a marathon runner and also teenie and slim. Then we have Shandelle—she’s got a waistline and trim arms and legs and can wear a bikini (Sigh!) My sister in law, Lorretta, in her early 40s, plays adult soccer and can outplay any teenager I know. She’s got rock hard abs. Suze and I used to be able to talk about our weight struggles, until she had the nerve to lose a lot of weight.

I am at a point right now that if I walk into a room by myself, people will notice that I’ve lost weight. BUT—no matter how much weight I lose, if I’m with one of my friends, the differences between us is so noticeable that my weight loss doesn’t make a dent. Not that I’m complaining (much). They inspire me and keep me going and without their support, I’m not sure I could do this.

Speaking of friends: This journey of mine has been so interesting. I have done things that I never would have thought to do and met people I never would have run into. In my striving to change my lifestyle and get healthier, I have tried some new and exciting options that are available out there for anyone (whether or not you’re trying to lose weight).

The next issue of ModernMom will discuss spas, getting healthy, and various ways to accomplish this. Some I’ve had the fortune to experience. Starting Monday, I want to let you in on some of these fantastic opportunities. They have made an enormous difference in my life. Hopefully, they will be something you can incorporate in yours.

Meanwhile, I’m finally done with the flu (thank you all for your concern). Another (thin) friend of mine quoted that line from The Devil Wears Prada—“I’m just one stomach flu away from my ideal weight!” Not that I had the stomach flu, but it was an interesting experience to say the least. This week, I’ve been working very hard on being conscious about what I put into my mouth and really upping my water intake. I try to make that the first thing I do when I wake up in the morning (even before I have my cup of coffee).

Hopefully, I’ll see a lot of you this evening at the ModernMom get together. I’m looking forward to it.

I will be in Orlando next week for a photoshoot, but will report from there.

And you are right, your friends love you... even if you feel you are not at your ideal weight.

The other day, I went to lunch with co-workers and they mentioned how I eat so healthy (except for the chocolate that we all keep at our desks). As I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich , no fries- I realized that what I normally eat (without being conscious of this) is somewhat healthly. This is how I have always eatened. So the key is to make healthy eating and exercise aways part of your life, so when you do have fries and desert (as you know , mine is always chocolate) it is more of the exception.
