Starting a new fitness routine is often a daunting task. Sticking to one is next to impossible , especially when your excuses easily outnumber reasons to persevere.
Many people believe that stay-at-home moms have endless time to exercise. This belief is as overstated as the numbers on my scale. What we do have is flexibility. In order to put that to good use, our local Meetup Group resolved to help each other lose weight.
When we are low on energy, when there is no child care available and no time to hit the gym, there’s only one thing left to do. Get creative! One mom squeezes in cardio while playing an energetic game of Freeze Dance with her boys. Another hits the elliptical for 60 minutes with ankle weights after the kids are asleep.
Even though most of us do not belong to a gym, we still enjoy structured programs. As a way to improvise, we use Netflix and On Demand TV as a way to add variety to the workouts. We also meet at the mall before the stores open and speed walk at top velocity, burning unwanted calories. Our Message Board helps us with accountability by keeping daily logs of what we eat and how frequently we exercise.
Our reasons for wanting to get into shape are as varied as we are. Whatever the reasons, be it health related or the desire for a new wardrobe, the changes we are making are profound. We challenge you to do the same.
