The North Dakota Farmers Union had a problem. They were not getting the recognition or price for their high quality products. They wanted to connect consumers and their money with high end food produced by American family farmers without the interference from the middleman. They decided to open a restaurant that showcased their high quality produce, meat and poultry products and that’s how Georgetown Waterfront gained Farmers & Fishers in June of 2006.Farmers and Fishers’ uniqueness is the combination of an exceptional menu coupled with a creative ambiance and knowledgeable staff that possesses details of each menu item, including what the menu item consists of, each food product that makes up the entrée, where the food products came from, background about the agricultural producer, including the operation and how the product is grown or raised. When we visited Farmers and Fishers during a busy Saturday lunch, for appetizers my family and I tried their Chocolate-Dipped Bacon Lollipops and Fresh tablemade Guacamole served with Chips and Salsa. Smoked bacon strips were dipped into dark chocolate syrup and refrigerated before being served. I liked the contrasting taste of smoked bacon with dark chocolate, but my family did not care for them too much. Tableside prepared Guacamole was a hit and it was finished in a hurry. Before I forget, with our meals we ordered Oxford Class Clipper Organic Amber Ale made in Maryland described as “Classic amber ale with biscuit and caramel malt flavors, and just enough hops for a crisp finish.” We thought it went great with our meal.
