Celebrate Fairfax | June 7-9

Northern Virginia’s largest community-wide celebration, arrives June 7-9, 2013 to the Fairfax County Government Center. Presented by Celebrate Fairfax, Inc, the annual festival hosts tens of thousands of visitors during the three-day run.

The 25-acre site is magically filled with fascinating sights and sounds of more than 300 exhibitors, food vendors, crafters and interactive activities. Live concerts on eight stages, ExxonMobil Children's Avenue, a petting zoo, the Fairfax County Karaoke Championship, carnival rides and great festival foods. Another fun activity for kids is the Inova Train Ride to Good Health.

Nightly fireworks, presented by SAIC, are a highlight of the festival, and one of many great family programs. This year's Bud Light Main Stage features top national headline performers: The B-52s, Spin Doctors and the Summerland Tour 2013 - Alternative Guitars starring Everclear, Live, Filter and Sponge!

Women Can Fly is a newly created volunteer organization whose mission is to promote women of all ages to fly. We are pilots and aviation enthusiasts who know the exhilaration of flight, the joy of discovering new horizons and the friendships born of shared visions, with the hope that more women will fulfill their dreams by joining us.

This inaugural flying event will be co-sponsored by the Ninety-Nines, Inc. (International Organization of Women Pilots), the Commonwealth’s Department of Aviation, Liberty University, and Warrenton-Fauquier Airport.

Celebrate Loudoun Small Business Week June 3-7, 2013

Small business owners and entrepreneurs are invited to participate in Loudoun Small Business Week, which runs from June 3-7 this year. Below is a list of business development and networking events taking place in Loudoun County. According to the Small Business Administration, more than 50 percent of all Americans either own or work for a small business, and they create about two out of every three new jobs in the U.S. each year. In Loudoun County, about 86 percent of businesses have fewer than 20 employees. Loudoun will celebrate Small Business Week with a number of events to help small companies grow.

The Washington Humane Society’s 26th annual black-tie is the only black-tie event for Washington, D.C.’s movers and shakers where they can bring their canine companions as their dates. The Bark Ball draws many of the area's most illustrious residents and their four-legged friends, all in honor of the programs and services of the Washington Humane Society. The guest list includes leading figures from the political, media, entertainment, sports, and business worlds. Leashed dogs are welcome and encouraged to attend. All proceeds will directly benefit the animals and programs of WHS.

Maryland Science Center's 36th Annual Solstice Gala - June 22

Solstice, the Maryland Science Center’s fundraising gala, marks its 36th year of science celebration on Saturday, June 22, 2013 from 8 p.m. to Midnight. The annual fundraising event will be decked out this year with a moveable feast, an always popular signature drink, live music and an evening of dancing.

The Real Geniuses will bring the grooves to the gala, performing a catalog of hits from the 50s to the early 90s in a high-energy, musical performance. As a break from cutting the rug, guests will also enjoy a silent auction with unique travel excursions, dining certificates, jewelry and even a signed Joe Flacco jersey. The Maryland Science Center’s hundreds of interactive activities and exhibits will be open for perusing party-goers. 

All proceeds from Solstice support the Science Center’s long-standing policy of offering Maryland school groups free admission when visiting on field trips. Tickets for Solstice 2013 are $105 for members, $125 for non-members.

Cocktail party attire is suggested—jackets encouraged, ties optional, and of course, dresses that impress. Valet parking will be provided.
