Burapa, a good Thai Restaurant in Lansdowne
Burapa is located in the newly built Lansdowne Shopping Center. Owner, Prathumwal Uthes (Prat), came to this country as a student and received her MBA. She worked for Continental Airlines for 6 years and decided to quit opening her first Thai Restaurant. “It failed miserably,” says Prat “I had a terrible location and I lost $40,000 of my own money.” Prat did not give up and since then she successfully opened 3 Thai Restaurants within 5 years.
To be fair to the other Thai Restaurants I already reviewed, I tried Burapa’s Tom Yum Gai soup as well. It is the classic Thai soup, served in a water drop shaped bowl, with clear broth, chicken, mushrooms and spicy lemon grass. Soup was spicy and it had big chunks of lemon grass which added extra zest. If you get tired of eating Pho, try Tom Yum Gai this winter. Continuing with my fairness theme, I tried Chicken Red Curry in coconut sauce with bamboo shoots, string beans and basil leaves. It did not disappoint me and the Jasmine rice was extra fresh and fragrant. For the first time, I tried the Bangkok Beef which is sliced flank steak, marinated in sesame oil and spices. It is then pan fried and served with shredded fresh ginger, pickled carrots and cabbage. Presentation of this dish was very impressive and I highly recommend it to any beef eaters. Prat also served her signature mango ice cream which is rich and creamy. Toped with home made mango sauce, it is a refreshing way to finish off any Thai meal. What is next for Prat? Why, her fourth location of course.
