Digg!

By Sarah Safa

Blame it on the sun, smoking, or even your grandparents, but odds are that many of us will eventually experience premature signs of aging, loss of facial fullness, sagging skin, and wrinkles. Fortunately, for every woman, there are innovative cosmetic procedures to delay the aging process. Cosmetic procedures, that were once considered a luxury, are now readily available and more affordable to all aesthetically-minded women of Loudoun. As a superior non-surgical procedure, “next generation fillers” harmonize facial features by softening facial lines, restoring volume, and enhancing your natural beauty. You do not need to be a Hollywood celebrity or a socialite to enjoy the benefits of line fillers. They are readily available and are becoming more affordable.

Cosmetic fillers are the cornerstone of today’s aesthetic procedures but, like patients, not all products are the same. Fillers include a variety of materials with varying longevity and tissue effects that must be tailored to each person’s unique needs.

The most effective fillers on the market consist of natural building blocks found within your tissue, such as Hyaluronic Acid (Restylane™, Juvéderm™) and Hydroxylapatite (Radiesse™). Although fillers may last from four months to two years, the continued aging of your face and filler absorption variables affect how long they may refine your appearance. There is a variety of products available, and patients receive optimum results when choosing an accredited medical professional with specialized training to recommend and inject appropriate filler.

The goal is to delicately enhance features such as cheeks, parenthesis around the mouth, furrows between the eyes, lips, jowls, and even aging hands. To ensure patient comfort, local anesthetic is first injected, followed by a painless 20-30 minute procedure. On average, one to three syringes are injected, however the amount of correction desired will determine the total amount of syringes needed. In Northern Virginia, fillers start from $400-$800 per syringe. With each treatment, the client immediately looks younger and healthier with minimal recovery or downtime.

The FDA requires stringent testing of these products and approves pharmaceutical fillers in the same manner as medical devices. New biocompatible fillers have few side effects, unlike previous fillers such as collagen. Typical side effects are mild to moderate, lasting five days or less, and include temporary injection site reactions like redness, tenderness, bruising, and swelling. New patients are typically surprised at the simplicity of cosmetic filler procedures.
