Thai Luang Restaurant - Herndon, VA | Reviews PDF

Hidden in the back of the office park cornered at Elden and Fairfax County Parkway is a GEM I am reluctantly sharing with my fellow moms. For years now and when the craving hits me (which is pretty often) I will call my dear friend and associate Tom and simply say "Duck duck duck duck". In all the years we have done this, I can count on one hand the number of times he has responded with anything other than the time he will meet me.

"Duck duck duck" is the reason one would pass all of the OTHER Thai restaurants in their neighborhoods and drive to Thai Luang. When I really like you, you will know it because I will take you to Thai Luang. When I no longer like you, you will know it because we won't go to Thai Luang anymore.

I don’t know who did it first, but slowly and surely casual dining restaurants are adopting Web 2.0 simplicity in designing a food ordering system. What is a Web 2.0 simplicity you ask? Have you been to web sites where all that you see are 3 extra large buttons say “Buy Now”, “Contact Us” and “Sign Up For Newsletter?” That simplicity is the end result of Web 2.0. Give the customer an easy, no brainer access to what he/she wants. Don’t hide your information. Casual dining restaurants are fast incorporating this simplicity into their menus. Chipotle is a good example, so is Aditi Bistro of Vienna, Café Metro in NY and now Pei Wei.

A Taste of BurmaAccording to Wikipedia “Burma, officially the Union of Myanmar, is the largest country by geographical area in mainland Southeast Asia.” The country is bordered by countries with major cuisines including India, China, and Thailand. I like Thai, Chinese and Indian foods so how could I have missed Burmese food? How come the only time I hear about Burma in the media, it is about Burmese military junta and not about their beautiful culture and food? I hope to change this as I just found out about this great Burmese restaurant called “A Taste of Burma” in Sterling.

In Indian culture, Rangoli is a colorful decorative art form. Rangoli is also the name of this popular Loudoun Indian restaurant, which uses the art form as a theme. Opened in 2006, the restaurant quickly rose to critical acclaim from being Zagat Rated to finding itself on various favorite lists. For good reason—it has really great food.

Burapa, a good Thai Restaurant in Lansdowne

Burapa is located in the newly built Lansdowne Shopping Center. Owner, Prathumwal Uthes (Prat), came to this country as a student and received her MBA. She worked for Continental Airlines for 6 years and decided to quit opening her first Thai Restaurant. “It failed miserably,” says Prat “I had a terrible location and I lost $40,000 of my own money.” Prat did not give up and since then she successfully opened 3 Thai Restaurants within 5 years.

When I say Indian Restaurant, what comes to your mind? Scarcely lit and plain looking place with traditional Indian artifacts adorning walls covered with beige wall paper, right? Think again with Aditi Bistro. Indian-American community is re-entering the Indian Restaurant business with an ultra modern second generation that is still in touch with its roots yet, worldly.

This transformation has already taken place in London and New York and it is finally hitting the Northern Virginia suburbs with Aditi Bistro. Located in an unassuming strip mall, Aditi Bistro is Pret-A-Manger meets Chipotle. It has the almost surgical look of Pret-A-Manger combined with traditional Indian delicacies served in wraps a la Chipotle style. Even the way you order your food reminded us of the simplicity of Metro Cafes in New York City. How you ask?
