Define Modern Mom I believe a Modern Mom is a woman who gives it her all everyday. But a Modern Mom is also a woman who is able to forgive herself for not being a Super Mom everyday and for dropping a few of those balls she has in the air all the time.

Age I am old enough to be grandmother to my handsome three year old grandson Dillon, but not old enough to look like a “granny.”

Greatest accomplishment My family. Professionally, it is when a woman who says my Buddy Check 9 message of taking charge of your own health, helped save her life. What anawesome accomplishment & responsibility.

Self love I love myself, but I believe I am a work in progress. One day a week I try to take for hair, manicure, pedicure or facial. And, I am working really hard on saying NO!

Balancing life As I said in the beginning, it’s not easy balancing being a mom, wife and having my own life. Less guilt now that the children are young adults, ages 26 and 24, but you always worry if you’ve adequately prepared them for the world and all its challenges. The real complication for me is my wake-up time. It’s 2:30 a-m. To get the necessary 8-hours of sleep, to avoid stress and possibly an early death, I should be in bed by 6 p-m. That would mean absolutely no life. I would never get to spend any time with my family during the week or accept community commitments in the evening.

Romance Spontaneity is always good, like the time we got carry out and packed a basket for dinner in the park---in the middle of the week. Dessert was fabulous!!!! Other tricks, I’ll keep to myself.

Biggest splurge It was on a gorgeous short, designer skirt. But I wasn’t wearing my reading glasses and didn’t realize there was another ZERO before the decimal point. Even on SALE it was extravagant. I could have returned it,but didn’t because my legs look great when I wear it.

Who do you admire? I need to break this answer into two categories. Professionally, I admire the women and men breast cancer survivors I’ve met in 14-years of reporting Buddy Check 9. They are my heroes. On a personal note, I most admire my mother, Ethel S. Roane. She and my father, Frederic, were a perfect pair for 54-years. I was amazed at how strong she was after losing her wonderful half. They loved traveling and community involvement, and mother never missed a beat doing the things they once did together.

Your inspiration The survivors and my mother also inspires me.

Beauty secrets I take care of myself primarily by walking. During the summer, my husband & I were up to 8-miles and pushing on. Plus we started walking to run close-in errands. It felt great, made sense with the soaring price of gas & it was a great way to be together. I also do what I tell others to do. I get my regular clinical exams, do a monthly BSE and have my annual mammogram.

Plastic surgery I’ve never had plastic surgery, but I won’t say I would never consider it.

Best asset My best asset, my voice. One person called and said “if the world were coming to an end, he would want to hear my voice tell the story.”

Last piece of advice You might think you’re overwhelmed now, but just take a deep breath, forgive yourself, and know that according to a USA TODAY report, sex is even better as you age!!!!
